Selling Your Home During the Winter: Tips for a Successful Sale

ranch home with front porch in winter snowEveryone knows winter isn't the preferred season for selling a home, but sales happen more frequently than most suspect. As a home seller, there are steps you can take to make your property more appealing to buyers, even during cold weather months. On the plus side, there is usually less inventory from December through February, meaning there are less properties competing with yours. It might be cold and blustery outside, but earnest buyers are on the move!

To make your home as appealing as possible, de-clutter each room, paying special attention to crammed cabinets and overflowing closets. Buyers will check to see what type of storage your home offers, and won't be shy about opening a bedroom closet or kitchen cupboard. The garage is another good place to de-clutter, providing it with a good clean sweep to free it of all that road salt and muck.

Leave curtains and blinds open for plenty of natural light which will help offset the bleaker colors of winter. Keep walkways clear of snow and ice, and set your thermostat to a comfortable temperature. Leaving lights on when you know there is a scheduled showing, especially on dreary days, can make your home cozy and inviting.
