New Year’s Eve Traditions

old vintage clock a few minutes before midnightIt’s almost time to bid goodbye to 2013 and usher in a New Year. While we celebrate with parties, noisemakers and dropping a large crystal ball in Times Square, our ancestors had a different way of embracing the calendar change. In the distant past, it wasn’t simply a matter of sharing memories and recalling events. The ‘old year’ had to be ushered out properly so the New Year could bloom and thrive.

The award is given to an Association member who displays outstanding qualities toward the advancement of the real estate profession and the community at large. This is the second time Amy has received the award, having also been a recipient in 2007. The distinction comes as no surprise to her colleagues, clients, and those who know her in the community.

No matter where you go - - stores, restaurants or businesses – everyone has put on their best winter finery. Inside and out, the surroundings sparkle with garlands of green, silver and gold, and wreaths adorned with bright red berries. It’s a time for graceful reindeer, frosted pine cones, and towering trees wrapped in jewels of light. The air is crisp, coaxing gloves, hats and mittens, but not cold enough to keep me indoors.

The brilliant splendor of autumn still draws the eye with ease—trees dressed in the vibrant orange, gold, and cinnamon hues of the season; shrubs bursting with color in preparation of dropping their leaves for the coming winter. Harvest decorations are abundant adorning porches, doorsteps, and lampposts. The air has turned crisp and the mornings carry a hint of frost.
